Promise of tomorrow

I left my kiss on your bed last evening
Can you try not crush her when you reach?
There, beside your pillow, she must nestle
Until your arms lift her to the skies again

I sprinkled some memories of sunlight
Green words recited as sacred hymns
To repeal questions from two cups of tea,
an intruding glass. Speak softly, lest they shatter

I hugged air in each corner of your space
Faint fragrance of a never-to-be forgotten day
Hung there waiting to be spoken to
Until I came away with a promise of tomorrow
